Lots of startup companies in the IT field are experiencing significant developments. Both those operating nationally and those operating internationally. One of them is Pocketbook. Pocketbook is a producer of premium e-books based on electronic ink technology developed by the American company E Ink. The founders of this startup are Igor Popov and Oleg Naumenko from Kyiv in 2007.
The next IT startup company in Ukraine is GITLAB. GitLab is a service for systematizing files with the kharkiv code of programmer Dmytro Zaporozhets. This startup was created in 2011. Interestingly, Ashton Kutcher invested 1.5 million dollars in the Ukrainian company.
Gitlab is a service that provides remote access to Git repositories. In addition to hosting your code, these services provide additional features designed to help manage the software development cycle.
What is Gitlab? To understand it we need to understand some terminology. We often come across terms like Git, Gitlab, GitHub, and Bitbucket. Let's look at the definitions of all these terms. Git is a source code versioning system that lets you track changes locally and push or pull changes from remote resources.
GitLab, GitHub, and Bitbucket : services that provide remote access to Git repositories. In addition to hosting your code, these services provide additional features designed to help manage the software development cycle. These additional features include managing code sharing between different people, bug tracking, wiki space, and other tools for 'social coding'.
GitHub is a free, publicly available service that requires all code (unless you have a paid account) made open. Anyone can view the code you push to GitHub and offer suggestions for improvements. GitHub currently hosts source code for tens of thousands of open source projects.
GitLab is a github-like service that organizations can use to provide internal management of git repositories. It is a self-hosted Git-repository management system that keeps users' code private and can easily deploy code changes.
The features in gitlab are:
- GitLab hosts your (private) software projects for free.
- GitLab Is a platform for managing Git repositories.
- GitLab offers private and free public repositories, issue tracking, and a wiki.
- GitLab is a user friendly web interface layer on top of Git, which increases the speed of working with Git.
GitLab provides a Continuous Integration (CI) system for managing projects and provides a user interface along with other features of GitLab.
Advantages of using gitlab:
- GitLab provides a version of GitLab Community Edition for users to find on which server their code is present.
- GitLab provides unlimited public and private repositories for free.
- The Snippetsection can share a small amount of code from a project, instead of sharing the entire project.
Disadvantages when using Gitlab:
- While pushing and pulling repositories, it's not as fast as GitHub.
- GitLab interface will take some time when moving from one page to another.
