The University of Computer Science and Technology (STEKOM
University), on 12 August 2021 held an International Webinar with
Vidyavardhaka College of Engineering in India and the National
University of Timor Lorosa'e in Timor Leste. The theme of this
webinar is "Machine Learning Applications for Food Engineering"
which was very well presented by Dr. Gururaj, HL ; Domingos de Sousa
Freitas, S.T., M.T and Santi Widiastuti S.T, M.T.
Machine
Learning is a sub-branch of artificial intelligence (AI) that gives
systems the ability to learn and develop automatically from
experience without having to be explicitly programmed, said Dr.
Gururaj. Meanwhile, Food Engineering is a multidisciplinary branch of
applied physics that combines science, microbiology and engineering
for the food and related industries, he added. As the first resource
person, Dr. Gururaj delivered a complete explanation of the
understanding of machine learning and food engineering along with the
various challenges faced today and in the future.
On
the next occasion, Domingos de Sousa S.T, M.T delivered material on
food technology for processing traditional alcohol as an export
commodity. This material is based on research that results in
improvements in production processes and quality. The presentation of
the material went very smoothly and the participants who looked
active on the media zoom and youtube looked very active. At the end
of the presentation session, a question and answer session was also
provided which was attended by participants with interesting
questions to the speakers. Both questions asked in writing and
orally, all showed the level of enthusiasm of the participants
towards the presenters or the material presented.
Representative
from STEKOM University, Santi Widiastuti S.T, M.T delivered material
on the application of artificial intelligence in the food industry.
In this era of technology 4.0, we must be able to utilize technology
and information as much as possible to simplify our tasks and work,
to be more effective, efficient but still of high quality, he
explained. If we are resistant to this 4.0 technology trend, then we
will experience a lot of being left behind with the current industry.
We will find it difficult to keep up with events or the current
direction of industrial development. Where the industry is currently
mostly developing towards automation and data-based so that work
tends to run faster, but remains accurate.
This
webinar was opened by the Chancellor of the University of Computer
Science and Technology, Dr. Joseph Teguh Santoso at the beginning of
the event. The webinar was held online for 2.5 hours and ran smoothly
until the event was over. The organizing committee is very grateful
to all those who contributed to the smooth running of the event. Both
the participants and all the committee crews are considered to have
played a large role in the smooth running of the event.

The International Webinar “Machine Learning Application For Food Engineering” was held at STEKOM in collaboration with two universities from abroad.
