At an international webinar held by STEKOM UNIVERSITY on August 18 2022, an academic from America gave a presentation on "technology in gastronomic tourism". The academic's name is Elva Saldana Alvarez. Continuing the previous article, Mrs. Elva then explained about the role of Google technology in supporting gastronomic tourism in Mexico. Ms. Elva indicated that various information services regarding various types of food, travel information, and various places were well provided.
This activity is part of the implementation of STEKOM University's commitment to increase various international activities in order to realize the vision to become an international-class university. Various international activities carried out by STEKOM University continue from year to year. There are international activities that are sustainable and there are also some international activities that are not sustainable. All types of international activities are accommodated and regulated by the International department of STEKOM University.
During a pandemic, various technological tools allow us to stay connected, collaborate and find the best response to overcome the challenges before us. Google wants to be Mexico's trusted technology ally and contribute to the country with programs, products and initiatives that promote economic, social and cultural development. At a Google for Mexico event, they expressed their commitment to accelerating the country's economic recovery, helping people find more and better jobs, facilitating business growth, reducing the gender gap, and promoting financial inclusion.
The Google company works closely with the Ministry of Public Education, they help students across the country to continue their school year by providing more than 20 million free Google for Education accounts. They have trained more than 1.9 million people in Mexico through Grow with Google and Google.org grants. And they have worked closely with the Ministry of Tourism to create a joint strategy to digitize the travel sector, and partnered with the Ministry of Economy on a gender gap reduction project and technology innovation program for manufacturing companies in the southeastern region of the country.
According to research they conducted with AlphaBeta, by 2021 they estimate that companies in the country are generating over $7.7 billion dollars worth of annual economic benefits from Google products (Google Search & Ads, AdSense, Google Play, and YouTube), approximately approximately tripled its impact in 2018 ($2.3 billion).
Today, more people in the world use their smartphones to store credit and debit cards and to buy new things. Over the past few years, we've seen the rapid digitization of essential items we carry with us every day, such as car keys, digital ID and vaccine records.
That's why Google announced that Mexico is part of the global rollout of Google Wallet on Android and Wear OS. Google Wallet will launch initially with support for payment cards and loyalty cards and eventually expand to new experiences such as transit and event tickets, boarding passes, car keys, and digital ID.
Mexico's Southeastern region is home to more than 50% of the country's indigenous people; it is also a place affected by poverty and with great social vulnerability. Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, is committing $10 million — the largest amount of funding provided by any organization in the country — for the region's transformation. This initiative will mostly benefit women over the next three years, supporting programs focused on increasing economic opportunities that accelerate financial inclusion, reducing gender disparities.
Google's serious support for information services in Mexico in the end also supports tourism activities there. So visitors need not worry about various tourist information in Mexico. Especially in the gastronomic context, tourists visiting there will easily find information about the most suitable or preferred food choices.
