There are several factors that are the main drivers in green engineering. The first is Sustainability. The essence of environmental engineering is sustainable development. Green Engineering meets the needs of society in a way that can continue indefinitely into the future without destroying or depleting natural resources. meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. “Cradle to cradle” design — ending the “cradle to grave” cycle of manufactured products, by making products that can be fully reclaimed or reused.
The next green engineered driving factor is resource acquisition. Reducing waste and pollution by changing production and consumption patterns. Source reduction, also known as waste prevention or pollution prevention, is the elimination of waste before it is created. This involves the design, manufacture, purchase or use of materials and products to reduce the amount or toxicity of what is disposed of. Reducing resources also means stopping waste before it occurs. Reducing this source can also be a driver of pollution prevention, which is an innovative approach to environmental management through the elimination of pollution before it is recycled, treated, or disposed of. In addition, minimizing waste can also be achieved by reducing the production and toxicity of hazardous waste materials such as paint cans, pesticides, and motor oil before disposal or storage.
The next green engineered driver is innovation. Actions can take the form of developing alternative technologies — whether fossil fuel or chemical-intensive agriculture — that have been shown to be detrimental to health and the environment. Various types of products and production techniques that are continuously updated will drive the company's quality and revenue improvement. This can also make changes to be more environmentally friendly. Therefore, the company's financial benefits will be achieved along with a green environment will also be achieved.
The ultimate green engineered driver is life preserver. Survival will create centers of economic activity around technologies and products that benefit the environment, accelerate their adoption, and create new careers that truly protect the planet. With good viability in the company's ecosystem, green engineering can provide guaranteed solutions instead of being a problem or bottleneck in industrial processes. Thus, efforts to green the environment will be achieved in line with the expected industrial development.
The STEKOM University international webinar presenter who delivered the material was Kefale Kebie Bishaw who has an M.Sc academic degree in Structural Engineering. He is also a lecturer and researcher at Debre Tabor University which is located in the city of Debre Tabor, Country of Ethiopia. STEKOM University has collaborated with the University several times. This time the international activity being held was an international webinar entitled "Advantage of Green Engineering".
The title of the presentation delivered by Mr. Kefale was "Advantage of Green Engineering / Technology". At the beginning of his presentation, Mr. Kefale explained the outline of his presentation. The outline presented by Mr. Kefale included the following points:
- What is Green Engineering?
- Green Engineering Category,
- Green Engineering Push Factor Pen,
- Benefits and Some Limitations,
- Conclusions and recommendations.
The webinar activity is part of the implementation of STEKOM University's commitment to increase various international activities in order to realize the vision to become an international-class university. Various international activities carried out by STEKOM University continue from year to year. There are international activities that are sustainable and there are also some international activities that are not sustainable. All types of activities are accommodated internationally and regulated by the International department of STEKOM University.
