Examples of green engineered subject areas include green materials. 'Green' buildings are buildings which, in their design, construction or operation, reduce or eliminate the negative impacts, and can create positive impacts, on our climate and natural environment. There are several features that can make a building 'green'. The following are its features:
- Efficient use of energy, air and other resources,
- Use of renewable energy, such as solar energy,
- Reducing pollution and waste, and enabling the reuse and recycling of materials used,
- Good indoor environmental air quality Use of non-toxic, ethical and sustainable materials,
- Environmental considerations in design, construction and operation,
- Consideration of the quality of life of occupants in design, construction and operation,
- Design that allows adaptation to changing environments.
Green Building has become a trend in recent years, especially since the earth is experiencing global warming. Green Building was born as a solution to build houses or buildings that are more environmentally friendly. Moreover, buildings produce global carbon dioxide emissions of more than 30 percent which can trigger global warming. So, Green Building is here to minimize this.
Green Building is an architectural concept to build houses or buildings by minimizing the negative impact on the environment and humans. Green Building also precipitates efficient and optimal utilization of natural resources and renewable energy.
The construction of houses or buildings with the Green Building concept must be able to maximize existing resources, by not using excessive building materials. So that since its manufacture, the house or building has implemented an environmentally friendly concept.
In its development, Green Building is also designed so that the house or building that is built must be able to have a positive impact on the environment. Such as using natural lighting so that it can reduce electricity consumption, or installing solar panels as an energy source and so on.
The Green Building concept provides many benefits, not only to the environment but also to its residents. Following are some of the benefits of implementing Green Building;
Healthier, the first and most felt benefit of the Green Building concept is that it provides a healthier atmosphere and environment. In general, Green Buildings are designed with the concept of open and green space, so as to provide better and healthier air quality.
More Efficient, Since the beginning Green Building was designed by maximizing existing resources so that there is no excessive use of building materials. After that the house or building is built with an environmentally friendly concept by prioritizing saving energy use, especially in equipment that uses electricity. Most Green Buildings also use solar panels to reduce the need for electricity consumption.
More Adaptive, The next benefit of Green Building is that buildings can be adaptive to existing changes, because they are built with the concept of a growing house. This also allows Green Buildings to last longer.
The STEKOM University international webinar presenter who delivered the material was Kefale Kebie Bishaw who has an M.Sc academic degree in Structural Engineering. He is also a lecturer and researcher at Debre Tabor University which is located in the city of Debre Tabor, Country of Ethiopia. STEKOM University has collaborated with the University several times. This time the international activity being held was an international webinar entitled "Advantage of Green Engineering".
The title of the presentation delivered by Mr. Kefale was "Advantage of Green Engineering / Technology". At the beginning of his presentation, Mr. Kefale explained the outline of his presentation. The outline presented by Mr. Kefale included the following points:
- What is Green Engineering?
- Green Engineering Category,
- Green Engineering Push Factor Pen,
- Benefits and Some Limitations,
- Conclusions and recommendations.
The webinar activity is part of the implementation of STEKOM University's commitment to increase various international activities in order to realize the vision to become an international-class university. Various international activities carried out by STEKOM University continue from year to year. There are international activities that are sustainable and there are also some international activities that are not sustainable. All types of activities are accommodated internationally and regulated by the International department of STEKOM University.
