The trend of transformation and prospective development of agribusiness exports in Ukraine is very relevant in describing the transformation of the global food crisis. Current facts reveal transformational trends in the field of Ukrainian agri-food exports. The dynamics of foreign trade growth of Ukrainian agricultural food products with African countries has been studied. Objective factors and trends that enhance the prospects for market expansion of agricultural and food products to these countries have been analyzed. It has been proven that from 1996 to 2020, total exports from Ukraine to Africa have increased 23 times. Commodity and territorial structure of the main export types of agricultural food products have been analyzed comprehensively. It is determined that the main exports flow to Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia. Their share among the countries of the African region exceeds 85%. Forecasts for the export of food-agricultural products to African countries, which are most in demand, have been developed. Prospective trends in the development of natural volume and value exports of wheat, barley, maize, sunflower oil and wheat flour have been demonstrated.
The global food crisis triggered by conflict, climate shocks and the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified due to the ripple effects of the war in Ukraine which pushed up food, fuel and fertilizer prices. Russia and Ukraine are major world commodity producers and exporters ranging from oil and gas, mining to food. It is known that the Russo-Ukrainian war has cut off supplies from Ukrainian ports, which once exported large quantities of cooking oil as well as cereals such as corn and wheat. This problem has reduced global supply and caused prices for alternatives to soar. Global food prices have been nearly 30 percent higher than the same time last year, according to the United Nations.
The Russo-Ukrainian war kept grain out of what is known as the "breadbasket of the world" and made food more expensive around the world. It is feared that the unending war will exacerbate deprivation, hunger and political instability in developing countries. Russia and Ukraine export nearly a third of the world's wheat and barley, more than 70 percent of its sunflower oil, and are major suppliers of corn. Russia is the top global fertilizer producer.
World food prices were already rising, and war made matters worse, preventing some 20 million tonnes of Ukrainian grain from reaching the Middle East, North Africa and parts of Asia. Weeks of negotiations over a safe corridor to get grain out of Ukraine's Black Sea ports have made little headway. Though the urgency increases as the summer harvest season arrives.
