On Monday, June 26, 2023, STEKOM University continued its online seminar by discussing why the world needs engineers now more than ever. In this third part, Dr. Fuad Baghirov, a Senior Lecturer in Economics from WCU, Azerbaijan, gave his views on the important role of engineers, especially in the context of the global economy.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Fuad Baghirov welcomed all participants from Azerbaijan and shared his presentation titled "Why We Need Engineers Now More Than Ever." He highlighted several considerations as to why the engineering profession remains a very important choice in this modern era.

Dr. Baghirov explained that while many people tend to choose professions such as doctors or economists, the role of engineers is no less important. The profession is not just about earning or building a brilliant career, but also about concretely contributing to the development of an entire civilization.

"Trust us when we say the world needs more Engineers," said Dr. Baghirov, emphasizing that various engineering disciplines, such as mechanical, civil, chemical, or electrical, are looking for competent individuals to meet their high qualification needs.

One of the points emphasized by Dr. Baghirov is that engineers are not only theoretical thinkers, but also practical implementers. They not only create innovative ideas, but also implement them by prototyping and testing their concepts. This helps create practical solutions to various problems.

Dr. Baghirov also touched on contemporary issues involving the work of engineers, particularly in the field of technology. With the rise of automation and artificial intelligence, some companies may be making staff cuts, including software engineers. However, he emphasized that the need for engineers remains high, as they are not only theoretical thinkers, but also creative problem solvers.

Questions from participants regarding staff cuts in the field of technology, particularly software engineers, were answered by Dr. Baghirov. He stated that the choice of a career as an engineer is not only about current market needs, but also about personal interests and talents. For example, Dr. Baghirov shared that his choice to become a wood and furniture technology engineer was a result of his personal interests and passions, and he is satisfied with his choice.

The discussion then continued with questions from participants who highlighted the importance of choosing a field of study according to interests and market needs. Dr. Baghirov emphasized that understanding personal interests, as well as identifying fields that will continue to be needed in society, can be key to success in an engineering career.

The seminar continued to provide valuable insights into the role of engineers in solving modern-day challenges, and STEKOM University is committed to continuing to be a place where relevant science and technology are developed to meet the demands of the future.
