Global Supply Chain is defined as the distribution of goods and services across a global network of transnational corporations to maximize profits and minimize waste. In essence, global supply chain management is the same as supply chain management, but focuses on transnational companies and organizations.
This global supply chain is a supply chain which will involve suppliers or suppliers of goods as well as customers from other countries. It can be said that the global supply chain can reach various continents as well as countries with the aim of sourcing and supplying goods and services. When implemented the supply chain will involve the flow of information, processes and resources that exist throughout the world.
There are many benefits of an attractive global supply chain. The first benefit of this supply chain is lower business costs. So far, there are business people who think that expanding the world's supply chain can reduce product prices or become the final service of the business. Though not always so. Indeed, for transportation and transportation this will add to production costs.
What must be considered is that many countries have much lower production costs and also make businesses interested in expanding their supply chains to various parts of the world. People can also reduce spending by buying goods and services from suppliers, especially when the dollar is stronger than the national currency in the country where they live.
Another benefit is that this supply chain can make it easier for people to get sales to customers around the world. When a company has existing outposts throughout the supply chain it is easy for management to sell to other parts of the world as well.
There are several benefits that can be obtained with a global supply chain such as lowering costs due to much lower labor and operating costs, especially in producing products. In addition, the company can also develop suppliers. With this, companies can get opportunities to increase innovation and also share expertise in increasing markets and new workforce.
To overcome this global supply chain, companies can carry out certain strategies. The first strategy is a speculative strategy. In this strategy, companies can create scenarios according to certain assumptions and then change scenarios if those assumptions change.
There is also a hedging strategy in which the company will implement a supply chain in such a way that losses in one chain can be covered by other links. This strategy is simultaneous where it can be successful in other places but not successful in other places.
To streamline global supply chain processes, companies must use the best and most trusted software. The use of software or IT products is currently an important requirement for companies, especially in managing the supply chain so that it is managed properly and systematically. Currently, there are many applied software applications available that can be used to manage supply chains and are usually integrated in the ERP application for the free version or SAP for the paid version of the application.
