STEKOM University, Indonesia - In an effort to respond to the growing digital age and artificial intelligence, an international seminar titled "How AI Could Save (Not Destroy) Education" took place on Monday, August 21, 2023, from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. The event brought together a series of accomplished speakers to discuss how AI can be a tool that makes a positive contribution to education. The first speaker in the series was Olena Andriiuk.

Unpacking the Meaning Behind "I Think Therefore I Exist" - Rene Descartes' Perspective by Olena Andriiuk

In the first session of the seminar, Olena Andriiuk, an Associate Professor at the Department of Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity at NUFT, Ukraine, took a step forward by elaborating on the fundamental philosophy. She began her talk by bringing up the idea of "Cogito, ergo sum" or "I think and I exist" expressed by René Descartes. This concept, which links human existence to the ability to think, is an important basis for defining human identity in the midst of the digital age.
Andriiuk explained how despite the increasing sophistication of artificial intelligence, this principle remains relevant. He noted that AI can automate many tasks, but human reason remains at the core of technology creation and use. In the context of education, understanding that humans think and exist is key to designing responsive and ethical AI strategies.

Human Interaction in Education - An Anthropological Perspective in the Age of AI

Andriiuk also highlighted the importance of human interaction in education. He pointed out that AI can help in personalizing the learning experience, but human connection still dominates in creating an inclusive and influential educational environment.

Critical Thinking and Originality - A Philosophical Overview of Immanuel Kant

In the context of critical thinking and originality, Andriiuk explained how concepts coined by Imanuel Kant, a prominent philosopher, remain relevant in the age of AI. Critical thinking is a very important element in education to encourage students to think analytically and originally. In this regard, Andriiuk highlighted that AI can be a tool in supporting this critical thinking ability.

With Olena Andriiuk's concluding talk, seminar participants were reminded of the importance of exploring philosophical views in crafting the foundations of an education that is responsive to technological developments. The next session in this series of events will cover the material presented by the next speaker, Dr. Attia Aman Ullah from UniMAP, Malaysia. The next article will provide further insight into his perspective.
